Title sequence

SINNERS

Creation of a fictional title sequence for Sinners, inspired by The Penguin title sequence created by Prologue. For this Sinners title sequence project, I explored the aesthetic of animated painting, both in the visual rendering of shots and in the work on transitions. The entire project revolves around a duality of colors: red to embody heat, celebration, and the energy of dance, and blue to mark the break toward isolation, fear, and the supernatural.

The title card: Sinners, over the guitarist and his audience
  • The original still frame: the two brothers at dusk

    1. Capture

I select key still frames from the film.

  • The same shot graded, its sky turned red and blue

    2. Color grading

In Photoshop, I adjust the hue and apply filters to isolate and accentuate the red and blue palette.

  • The same shot repainted in Procreate, in texture and blur

    3. Painting & texture

I import the images into Procreate to repaint over them, which allows me to bring this painterly texture and artistic blur effect.
